Upper Hunter Set to Star on Sydney Weekender

Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter today announced that the region will be featured in a special episode on Channel Seven’s popular travel show Sydney Weekender, thanks to a NSW Government initiative to promote rural and regional NSW’s top tourism destinations.

Show presenter Felicity Urquhart will travel to Scone and Jerrys Plains to experience some of the region’s best food and wine offerings at The Cottage Scone and Vines at Hollydene.

Mr Johnsen said the filming opportunity was secured by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

“Growing tourism in rural and regional NSW is a key priority for the Nationals in Government and as the Member for Upper Hunter I’m committed to ensuring our local regions reaps the benefits of the Coalition Government’s record investment in the industry,” Mr Johnsen said.

“Our region’s beautiful food and wine continue to attract visitors far and wide and I am delighted that Sydney Weekender will be showcasing our local tourism attractions to its massive television audience.”

Mr Johnsen said the initiative is part of the NSW Government’s strategy to double overnight visitor expenditure in NSW by 2020.

“Securing media coverage, including segments on popular TV shows like Sydney Weekender, helps to promote our State’s great tourism products to a wide audience, and inspires people to look to rural and regional NSW when planning their next holiday.”

“In the year ended March 2017, there were 307,000 international and domestic overnight and day trip visitors to the Upper Hunter Shire LGA, who spent $50 million in the area.

“The partnership with Sydney Weekender helps shine a bright light on the vast array of attractions, activities, landscapes and produce on offer across regional NSW, and this episode will remind viewers that the Upper Hunter Electorate offers world-class food and wine,” Mr Johnsen concluded.

This episode is one of six Destination NSW specials airing on Sydney Weekender during 2017. Tune into the Seven Network at 5.30pm on 16 July 2017 to watch the episode.
